April Carroll, PhD is Vice President of Research and Development at AeroFarms®, a high-tech indoor farming company that grows quality, delicious produce in the heart of communities around the globe.
As a pioneer in the study of plant phenomics, Dr. Carroll combines advanced imaging, molecular biology, and data science to understand how plants grow and respond to their environments. Her foundational training in plant science paired with a passion for high throughput technology have been used to enable discoveries for organizations including DuPont Pioneer and Purdue University.
While serving as Director of Phenomics at Purdue University, Carroll coordinated diverse research efforts at the first field phenotyping facility in North America and led design of a world class plant imaging research center for indoor growing. She also led development of a data platform for plant science researchers, Smarter Agricuture®.
As Controlled Environments Research and Technology Development Lead for DuPont Pioneer, Carroll was the lead biologist on the facility design and scientific validation for two automated controlled environment plant production and characterization facilities, totaling more than $65M. She also led multi-disciplinary project tactical teams focused on pipeline development for rapid evaluation of diverse traits and crops.
Dr. Carroll holds a Ph.D. in Plant Science from the University of California, Riverside where she developed and applied high throughput automated imaging systems for plant genetics and chemical genomics drug discovery.
